Join Richie Carter for a week of oil and watercolor painting workshop in Dordogne, France.  Visit the Dordogne river valley, with its gardens, castles, fortified hilltop villages, ruins, and charming medieval towns for inspiration, subject matter, and fun.  With workshop leadership by Richie Carter and logistics assistance by Chaucer Silverson of Sketchy Tours, your experience is guaranteed to be fulfilling.  You’ll be working with other experienced artists, staying at luxurious accommodations in Beynac, a small medieval village situated on a cliffside overlooking the Dordogne River.  Artists will  visit plein air sites in Domme, Marqueyssac, Sarlat le Caneda, and in the countryside near Lascaux Caves.  Breakfasts are included at the Maison, artists are responsible for their own lunches out and about, and dinners are provided a la Maison or optional dining out at your own expense.

Richie Carter is a Montana based painter who spends much of his time traveling and painting outdoors en plein air.  Richie has spent an extensive amount of time in France.  He studied for one year in Amiens just north of Paris and has made numerous trips since to paint and travel.  He is well versed in the French language and culture.  In 2017 he led his first International workshop to the Languedoc region of southern France where participants painted, explored the countryside, visited local markets, and enjoyed delicious French cuisine. 

This workshop, intended for intermediate to advanced artists, will focus on both watercolors and oils.   We will work onsite in plein air using both mediums as a means of study and visual note taking. Days will consist of a mixture of touring, painting, and of course eating.  Artists are responsible for all their own supplies.  A materials list will be provided upon inscription.

Sketchy Tours, LLC has provided artistic travel experiences to guests in the Dordogne region of France since 2011 for groups, private tours, and artist workshops.  Geared specifically for artist travel planning, accommodations, and onsite workshop support, Sketchy Tours enhances time with workshop leaders before, during, and after each tour.
